Today Is Constitution Day In Thailand

The irony of this year's Constitution Day is that it is being celebrated without a working constitution in place here in Thailand. The constitution was thrown out during the coup this past September.

In Thailand, we celebrate:

• National holidays (like Constitution Day today);
• Royal holidays (like the King's birthday last week);
• Buddhist holidays (like Makha Bucha Day in February);
• Animist holidays (like Loy Krathong last month); and
• Western holidays (like Christmas later this month).

With all of these holidays, it seems like there is at least one holiday per week — either public or otherwise — in Thailand.

Oh well... as any person will tell you: Any reason for a day off from work is a good reason.
