This little fellow has the unfortunate name of "Tropidophorus hangnam". Hang Nam in Thai means "bathroom", and Tropidophorus is the scientific name for the type of lizard known as a skink. Yes... exactly: Thai scientists have discovered the bathroom skink.

Very stupid for the translator!!!!!! In Thai laungage: Hang=tail, Nam=spine.
Actually, I did know that "hang" was tail. Didn't know that "nam" was spine though. But regardless, I wasn't translating for accuracy, I was translating for comedy... which as anybody will tell you is much harder to do than serious translating. (For the non-Thai speakers out there, the most accurate phonetic spelling in Western script for "room" is horng, and the accurate phonetic spelling for "water" is nahm.)
Well the way I see it, everyone will remember the name "bathroom skink" which is a good thing, because notoriety and fame are the best things an animal can have if it wants to survive in this modern world.

When you try to write Thai with western script, nobody has any idea (except the person who wrote it) what it means.
If you go to thai-language.com and type in tail, they write it as "haang". Are they stupid too because they don't write it "hang"?
In fact, "haang" can mean "tail", "far away", or "department store" depending on the accent. Prove to me that this isn't a department store lizard. I say it is, and you're stupid if you disagree.
Thai-Language.com has "room" translated as "haawng" (which is pretty close to "hang") and water translated as "nahm" (which is pretty close to nam).
