Bobbing Around

[RANT]

I hate to kick people when they are down, but to the 100,000 (out of 500,000) people who decided to stay in New Orleans during the hurricane: What were you thinking? No: I don't give two flying f's that you were poor and couldn't afford to get out. What part of "your house is 10 feet below sea level and there is a 20-foot storm surge coming for a combined total of 30 feet of water" didn't you understand?

Pack a bag, grab your kids, and head for high ground. Stand at the side of the road and hitch-hike. Walk. Whatever. Somebody would have helped you... and even if they didn't, at least you wouldn't be standing waist deep in water, feet firmly planted on the roof of your house submerged underneath you.

I don't want to hear excuses. There is no excuse for chosing "Option Z: Remain with family below sea level in the path of a storm of biblical proportions." The other 25 options A through Y, all of which involved moving yourself and your loved ones in whatever manner possible out of New Orleans were each better than option Z.

Well... unless you're an armed looter. Then you had an excuse to stick around: So that you could take potshots at people trying to evacuate hospitals and deliver food aid.

Well, if you want to blame this all on God, give him credit: He certainly managed to find a city chock full of Darwin Award candidates.
