I've been watching the Katrina coverage. There is something to think about:
We are witnessing an event that hasn't occurred in probably 3 millenia: The earth reclaiming a large, major city back from humanity. This is on the level of Babylon.
Yes... I do really believe that New Orleans is not going to survive for one reason: Nothing we can do will guarantee that this won't happen again. No levee can be built high enough to ensure without a doubt that the next major hurricane to hit the Mississippi Delta won't have the same result.
Would you rebuild a house in New Orleans? Seriously? On stilts or not?
p.s. Who is going to give you home insurance? For how much?
