Out To The Races

Today we were invited by my friend Jimmy out to watch him race his motorcycle at Pattaya International Speedway. (The raceway is called something else, but that's what I call it.)

I was actually kind of surprised at the size of the event. I thought it would be a smallish track with a bunch of "weekend warrior" types out for a couple of laps, but there was a crowd of 5,000 or so, and when I saw the 800-horsepower Nissans, Mitsubishis and Porsches, I knew that this was an important (if not quite top-shelf) event.

Anyway, Jimmy was seeded ninth in the "Superbike" category, out of 30 some-odd racers, and he came in... oh... about ninth in the end. Pui and Pot had a great time, although the temperature was a little much. Ethan -- the guy from Belgium (but his name is actually Ivan)... so therefore... Ivan came along as well.

Anyway, photos (click on them for larger version):

This is where we were standing to watch the race. The exit from pit row is immediately on the left, and that is turn one sraight ahead on the left. The track then goes out, does another left turn and then 3 right turns and comes back into view on the right side. The beginning of the race. Jimmy is oh... about ninth or so. (The white stuff in the picture is oil-absorbant powder on the track, not smoke.)
Finally, Pattaya seems to have more Lamborghinis per capita than any place outside of Hollywood and Sant'Agata. So, as I said, Pui and Pot had a great time, and we'll definitely be going back to see the races again.
