New Internet

I went down today and transferred Ralph's (bsf) True DSL internet account into my name, thus ensuring that it won't get shut off or cancelled during the move. I had DSL before here in this house from TT&T, but it was exceptionally slow when it was working at all, and what's worse, it had a real personality clash with my workstation and its' super-secure Cisco networking system... to the point where my computer was actually sending back damaged jobs to the company.

I've figured out the secret (via Ralph bsf) to DSL in Thailand: Don't go with the slowest 256K speed for 800 baht or 1,200 baht per month. Those accounts seem to get sent to the back of the bus with all of the other cheapies, and they get the connection crumbs left over from the higher-speed accounts.

So, now I'm shelling out 2,400 baht a month for the 512K connection and Ralph bsf assures me that it works great all the time. (I'm told that I can also upgrade to a 1024K connection for 4,200 baht per month, and I might consider that at some point if my porn films and illegal MP3's are downloading too slow, but other than that, I can't see any need for that speed if the 512K works as advertised.)

Well... there is The Daily Show, the video of which I can download each day from Comedy Central. Hmm.
