Guantanamo Terrorist Gets Only 9 Months in Jail

Whether he is a terrorist or not... he is now, more or less, totally free. Why? Because the United States had to torture him to get him to admit to anything.
Australian David Hicks pleaded guilty at the Guantanamo Bay Navy Base yesterday to supporting terrorism in exchange for a nine-month prison sentence under a plea deal that forbids him from claiming he was abused in U.S. custody.
I hope you all feel safer now, America: The terrorists are getting out of jail free because the Bush Administration made it clear to the military that [ahem] "coercive questioning techniques" are perfectly acceptable.
"They told us this was one of the world's worst terrorists, and he got the sentence of a drunken driver," said Ben Wizner, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.
Do you get the picture yet America? These terrorists you keep hearing about? They can't be prosecuted and sent to prison now because they have been tortured. They only thing America can do is make "plea deals" with them, get them so sign a waiver, and release them.

In another case, a military prosecutor, Colonel Couch, is refusing to prosecute another terrorist, Mohamedou Ould Slahi, who is reportedly responsible for founding the "Hamburg Cell", which produced some of the 9-11 hijackers, because he was tortured.
Evidence is "disappeared." Detainees are gagged. Verdicts are pronounced based on testimony procured through torture. Col. Couch is not stupid. He must also know that using evidence procured by torture is a war-crime. Every military prosecutor tasked by Bush and Cheney to prosecute torture victims is being set up as a war criminal. Bush and Cheney, meanwhile, secured their own legal impunity in the Military Commissions Act last year.
So there you have it: Osama is still free, and all of the terrorists that we captured in Afghanistan are slowly being released one by one without charge to get back to their work of attacking us, because America is now a country that tortures people.

Well, at least we brought peace and democracy to Iraq, so George Bush has something to be proud of.

Without wanting to condone terrorism lets not forget he has spent about 5 years in hell on earth too - I'd hardly call that getting off lightly especially as this was WITHOUT trial!

I am pretty sad about the current leadership state of affairs. I do have some info that makes a differance in the end. Old Osama that everyone is so worried about has been deceased or let me say removed from this planet for quite sometime. I have first hand knowledge of this. Someday it wont be classified and the truth will be told and you will be very surprised how long ago he was eliminated. From Jakal

P.N.: Yeah... I didn't even want to get started on the fact that most of these people have been incarcerated for 4 or 5 years without a trial and without legal representation.
