Daily Report: Stan's Birthday Party
Stan, Birthday BoyToday was Stan's 57th birthday party, which was held at Pricha Seafood Restaurant (the region's best seafood restaurant, according to Stan) in Bang Saray... the next town south of Jomtien (which is the next town south of Pattaya) at 5:00 p.m. There were about 40 people in attendance, all told... representing about half of everybody I know in Thailand. (The other half are on vacation for Songkran.)
Stan's wife, MemStan had hired a van for anybody who wanted a ride down the coast, but Pui and I wound up going by motorcycle, riding alongside Bob, Ta, and baby Gina. Bob and I both bought Stan a bottle of vodka each, which... along with fish... is Stan's favorite thing.
Well... that's not true: Stan also loves to get all his friends together and throw a big party every now and then.
Everybody sitting down for dinner.Pui got home from Petchabun at about 6:00 this morning (Pot is staying behind until the first week in May), and spent the day getting caught up on her rest, and then visited with some friends before we headed out to the party. Her coming home represented the first chance I had to examine the camera I had bought for her... a 7.2 megapixel Sony Cybershot T50. These photos here from the party were taken with it... now replacing my Motorola RAZR camera phone for all my blog photos.
Pui and Baby GinaStan picked up the check for the entire shindig, including all the drinks, and then auctioned off a bunch of donated items to raise money for Steve's charity, and raised 16,000 baht for orphans, which was very cool. (I bought a T-shirt and a neck pillow for 750 baht. The night's top purchase was by Mad Mick, who picked up a fossilized fish for 3,000 baht.)
Anyway, everybody had an absolutely great time, and we went through 12 liters of wine, several bottles of vodka, 2 liters of sake, and all the shrimp, crab, mussels, and fish 40 people could eat.
