Daily Report: Sucky Saturday

I only worked for about 90 minutes today, but did almost 700 lines. Still though... a very bad day since my goal on Saturdays is 1,800 lines.

The DSL internet is down and I'm switched over to dial-up, which sucks too.

I watched some educational type programs this evening: A documentary on Drake's voyage along the West Coast of North and South America, and then a documentary on the early life of Mohammed. Maid Go cooked chicken with peanut sauce, and sticky rice.

Off to bed nice and early for a change.

My DSL keeps going off too. In IE6 click the "diagnostic" link that appears on the failed page.

That fixes it for me.

Thanks. I'll give that a try next time. (It's currently working fine now.)

Mine goes off around 10pm every night (for the last 3 nights) and doesn't come back until late next morning UNLESS I do this IE fix.

I can only assume we are on the same ISP (TOT) and that this is a deliberate ploy on their part seeing as its the same time each evening that it happens.

Wonder what would happen if we (en masse)asked for refunds due to not getting what we are paying for!? I mean its not a "fault" - they must be deliberately curbing service.

I was thinking the same thing... and I was also thinking about deducting the 179 baht I had to spend for CSLoxInfo 12 hours of dial-up internet from my bill as well.

Hi, Jil!

First of all: thank you very much for your blog-writing!

Here is a possible solution to your problems regarding web access: In the event of a landline internet shutdown, you may still have access via a mobile internet connection.

I picked up a four-page-brochure at Klang Plaza Shopping Center, Khorat, in Februrary. Inside is an offer for the Huawei Data Card E620, which costs 9,990 Baht and provides internet access through 3G and GPRS. You insert it into the PC Card slot (USB-version also available --> Huawei Data Card E220) and can then go online in any location where there is a connection to the mobile telephone network with whom you have a data plan.

So, even in case there is only GPRS available in Pattaya, you can still surf the net at a speed of 56kb/sec. In places where there is UMTS (3G) access, you should have a download rate of 384 kb/sec.

Thanks M-B-F-T. Unfortunately, I don't have a mobile internet connection to use. However, I can still use dial-up since the phone lines don't go down.

Good advice though.
