Quotacious

One difference between Conseratives and Liberals: Humor, and success at using it. When conservative Ann Coulter tries to be humorous by resorting to childish and boorish name-calling, it's not funny, and she is roundly criticized by pretty much everybody on the planet. When liberal John Stewart resorts to childish and boorish name calling... it's funny and he gets an Emmy award.

"This whole scandal came to light when Robert Novak became the first person to publish details outing the CIA operative. And it really would be a shame if amidst all the legal wrangling and the heated words about this case we lost sight of the one essential truth that I think all parties can agree on: Bob Novak is a HUGE douche bag."

At this point, The Daily Show broke into a 2-minute "heart-warming montage" of quite blatant examples of Novak ranting, snapping at people, swearing, stomping off in the middle of television broadcasts, and just generally being a douche bag, and... well... if Ann had busted out a 2-minute montage of John Edwards having gay sex, maybe her "faggot joke" would have worked. Maybe. Okay... probably not even then.

p.s. Ann, just a tip for you: If you had managed to work the queer-but-manly Cpl. Matt Sanchez' name into a gay joke about John Edwards being a bit femme, that would have been funny.

Who the heck are Ann Coulter and John Stewart and what is The Daily Show? Something American I would guess but it might be good to remember that a VAST majority of Pattaya expats and visitors are European, Asian or Australasian and so will a larger percentage of your readers be too. Americans make up a TINY fraction of expats in Pattaya so if you refer to Americans and American TV it might be a good idea to give us an explanation so we know the hell you are talking about :0.

Actually, I know exactly what portions of my readers are from America. (You can go to the right-hand column, all the way down to the bottom, and click on "Site Meter", and find out all kinds of interesting stuff about my visitors.)

Anyway, this blog is divided into 4 parts: One part is about my daily life. One part is news about Pattaya. One part is weird and funny and annoying stuff/news I find on the internet. The final part is U.S. Politics and my opinions.

Truth be told, I have no idea what non-American people know or don't know about America. We watched "Fargo" last night at Stan's house, and none of the British people there knew who Paul Bunyan was. Last week, I stumped British people when I talked about cooties.

So, in regards to explaining the odd bits and pieces of political hodgepodge that I write about, I won't bother because I have no idea what bits need explaining. For example: The Daily Show is one of the most popular television shows in America right now. If you can't remember who hosted the Oscars in 2006 (hint: It was the host of the Daily Show) then you're really out of the loop.

I suppose it's possible not to know who Ann Coulter is (here are all the British news sources who have written about her so far) but you can always click on one of the links I provide to get more information.
