J.I.P. New Music Showcase

In keeping with the "Gay or Not?" track of the blog today, I present to you Mika (artist site, wikipedia site). Mika has that might-be-gay in a Freddy Mercury kind of way thing going on... and once you listen to him, you'll know exactly why I used that particular reference. Your ears won't believe you.

(At least Mika doesn't shy away from the vocal similarities, singing, "I tried to be like Grace Kelly, but her looks were too sad... So I try a little Freddie... Ive gone identity mad!")

The exceptionally good-looking Mika is half Lebanonese, half American, and was raised in England. His song, "Grace Kelly" is one of the catchier tunes I've heard in a while... at least since the (even more gay) Scissor Sisters did "I Don't Feel Like Dancing."

Here is the video, "Grace Kelly" by Mika:

By the way, according to this article, Mika wrote this song as
"a screw-you" to yet another music company that wanted him to be a little more of the smouldering singer-songwriter du jour. Did he know he had a hit when he finished writing the song? He must have had an inkling when he attached the typewritten lyrics — "Should I bend over?/ Should I look older, just to be put on the shelf?" — to a demo of the song and sent it to the executive who had turned him away.
Heheh. Kind of gives the "cha-ching" at the end of the song a little more meaning, doesn't it?
