Penang Visa Offerings Improving

In comparison with the general visa situation in Thailand, it is nice to see a bit of news that flows in the opposite direction.

The Thai consulate in Penang, Malaysia is now issuing multiple-entry non-immigrant visas. (I was told on the flight back to Thailand by a co-traveler that the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur recently started offering this type of visa as well.) Therefore, it is possible (with "proper paperwork"... the definition of which you will have to discover on your own) to get a 1-year multiple-entry "O type" visa. This still requires a "visa run" every 90 days, but only a standard "into to Cambodia for a few minutes" visa run, as opposed to a trip to Penang, Vientienne, or other city containing a Thai embassy or consulate.

Based on the aforementioned discussion, I believe the cost of such a visa is 6,000 baht, and could take a day longer than a standard tourist visa to obtain. There are unfortunately still no double-entry 90-day tourist visas on offer at any nearby Thai embassies or consulates.
