Pattaya News Roundup

Pattaya is hosting the Southeast Asian Games this year, and the sailing competition is being held in the waters close to the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Jomtien. I'm not much of a fan: Sailing is to racing what speed-walking is to running. But if it is your thing, stop by. Competition ends on Friday.

With high season in full swing here in Pattaya, the thieves are out in force. They seem particularly desperate this year, snatching tiny little necklaces and impossible-to-fence watches like the one in this picture. This probably has a lot to do with tourists learning to leave their valuables at home when going out for the night in Pattaya.

Pattaya City government has finally decided to start planning for this year's New Year party... 2 weeks beforehand. Better late than never. Pattaya's other fun spot, Bali Hai pier, will be the place for everyone who enjoys officially-sanctioned New Year's merriment; anywhere else for the rest of us.
