A British fellow got beaten by 3 street salesmen. I'm thinking that it took more than what the fellow is admitting he did to get an ass-beating like this, but nonetheless, this kind of violence is sadly typical for Pattaya: There are lots of poor Thais who come here to earn a living and fail badly, and they get desparate and angry. Be careful.
In America, if somebody makes a suicidal threat, authorities are obligated to take that person into custody for his or her own safety. In Pattaya, when the police come across a bleeding, suicidal, drunken man
slicing himself with a knife, they calm him down, get him to promise that he won't do any more harm to himself, and then leave.
