America Just Doesn't Get It

Veni, Vidi, Cruciati... or Crucio Ergo Sum.

Weclome to the Roman Empire, V2.0. The people have spoken. Gather them for the games. Loose the lions and hear the masses cheer as their simple minds are filled with simple pleasures so that worries of the world outside the seven hills fade from memory.

Let their shallow morals be buttressed by the common belief in their own righteousness and superiority so that theirs can withstand any attack of conscience which Rome's actions shall cause.

Let their remaining insecurities be handed over to gods or government with an unfettered permission to fix and fiddle... to protect and preserve the only way of life they know. Let the Vestal flame be kept alive with the tinder of compromised integrity.

Let the hand of evil be bent to the service of Rome so that the gladius can be thrust and the javelin hurled against all who would harm the empire, without tarnishing the pure heart which commands it, without blinding the pure eye which witnesses it, and without corrupting the pure law which forbids it.

Let them carve in stone above it all "We act for the greater good."

If I was a Terrorist and you were a lady, would you........
No I'm not a terrorist. Tell you what though I would make a damn good terror consultant. Surely next time some unlucky US soldier was captured in Iraq it'd time for some waterboarding to be caught on video because you know it not torture. Just a thought. Next thought NEP@2am if you catch my drift.

Well, I can see your point, but I don't wish American soldiers to be tortured by terrorists any more than I wish terrorists to be tortured by American soldiers.

It would be interesting if that CNN poll posted above was worded "Are there circumstances in which waterboarding of American prisoners is acceptable?"

I understand your point. I use to feel the same way. However now i have a son and a daughter in the military and I really don't care what it takes to end this war. I want them back safe and sound. I am no longer a "global thinker". I don't give a damn about the country of Iraq, their people, religion or oil. I don't want my son injured or killed because he joined the military to support his family. None of them or their issues are worth it to me any longer. My son is rebuilding hospitals for them and is being shot at. It's easy for folks to say this and that about what we should be doing. When it is your kid in danger it all changes. I say withdraw immediately. To hell with them all! That also includes Bush.

Anon,

It begs the question: When those who care greatly about what the world thinks of America in Iraq, and those who care not about what the world thinks about America in Iraq, have a convergance of opinion on ending the war there, who is left to continue it?

The only people left supporting the war are those who would have to admit that they were wrong in supporting it at first, and that many, many Iraqis and many, many Americans died because of their error.

History will judge them harshly.

Im over here and I don’t give a damn about these people either way. Water boarding??? You should see what they do to their own. The only thing these people know is terror; they are extremists, terrorists, the hell with them they should be wiped off the face of the earth. Every conflict in the world involved Muslims, every one of them. Send them all to Haji hell. That’s just my opinion and yes I was against this thing too. On the other hand if we pullout now, that would be a big mistake, they are finally seeing who the real enemy is. If we stay the course we may finally get a handle on the Middle East. I travel the roads here and I’m telling you, DON’T LISTEN TO CNN. Big difference here now. Remember these people will cut your head off just the same as you putting your pants on in the morning. If you think Americans are arrogant you haven’t been to a Middle Eastern country. I have witnessed pickup trucks going down the road with sheep in the passenger seat while an old woman was in the bed, dressed in Black in 150* heat. You wouldn’t believe what goes on here if you didn’t see it with your own eyes, I’m no fan of GWB, and I think he’s as delusional as these Muslim extremists but I gotta say I see the strategy of this war and I NOW think it is the right one. Water board the hell out of them; remember those poor people jumping out of the windows of the WTC and think if the terrorists gave a damn about them or their families. We can either fight them on their turf or ours, Id rather do it here, we drew them all here and beat them, they are on the run with their backs against the wall, if we stop now they win. 20 years from now this country will be one of the richest countries in the world; the oil is pooled up on top of the ground in some places. Iv seen it with my own eyes. If you think there is poverty in Thailand, you aint seen poverty until you been here, there’s no reason for it. Peace in the Middle East, so my denars gain in value and I can retire fat and happy in The land of smiles and forget all this madness.
