Daily Report: Learning To Ride

Today, Epril and I slept in a little bit... until 8:30. I then got to work, but didn't get too much done.

For lunch, I took Epril out shopping, and bought her a really nice nightgown. Well... Okay... I get to enjoy seeing Epril wear it, so it is kind of a purchase for my own happiness too. Heheh. We stopped at Subway on Beach Road for lunch, and then at the Carrefour Home center for some odds and ends before heading back home.

I took a nap in the afternoon, and then got back to work in the evening.

Epril's first few seconds on a bicycle.
After seeing this attempt, I recom-
mended a helmet and gloves for her.
Maid Go's son brought a bicycle to the house today for Epril to learn to ride. Everybody gathered outside to shout words of encouragement, and Riza pushed Epril up and down the road for a while. Epril hasn't grasped the principles of how to get started yet... the big pedal push at the beginning to start things off. Well, she hasn't fallen, so there will be another lesson.

Epril and I are flying to Penang in Malaysia tonight, and will be back on Wednesday evening... so I won't be posting anything about Tuesday until after the fact.

Hi Jil,

Interesting blog!

My name is Pia Faustino and I'm a researcher for the Filipino television documentary program, I-WITNESS. We've been airing weekly for the past eight years on GMA7 Network, the Philippines' top rated network, and what we do is document extraordinary moments in the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

Currently we're doing a story about the growing number of interracial couples of which one half is Filipina! It will air on Philippine TV on November 12.

I found your blog through Google and I was hoping you or Epril could help me find a couple to interview for our show.

Specifically, we're looking for a Filipino woman and Western man who met through the internet and will be meeting up in person for the first time anytime before November 10.

We want to capture their emotional experience as they come face to face for the first time after days, months or even years of online correspondence.

A little background on our story. With the internet now available in almost every corner of the Philippines, there's a "globalization" of dating happening here and more and more Filipinas are finding husbands and boyfriends from other countries. There's a stereotype that these online relationships are less authentic than "real" relationships but we want to interview a couple who can challenge that.

You mentioned that there are many expats in Thailand who are looking for relationships with Filipinas. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO WILL BE VISITING THEIR FILIPINA GIRLFRIEND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE COMING DAYS?

If so, I would very much like to get in touch with this couple and invite them to be part of our project.

I understand that their first meeting is a sensitive and even private moment. But we at I-Witness are very experienced in this kind of work, and we always make sure that our subjects are totally comfortable and have all their questions answered before volunteering for our projects. We operate with the utmost tact in approaching anyone for interview.

Could you help me out?

Thanks!

PS. I can assure that this is an authentic request and if you'd like, you can verify with GMA7 Network Center in Quezon City at 63 2 9827777. They have office today and tomorrow but Thursday and Friday are holidays in the Philippines. Just call and ask for the Staff Administrator of the Public Affairs department. They can verify that I have been a reseracher with I-WITNESS (as talent) since June 2007. My producer is Kristoffer Brugada and my reporter/host is Sandra Aguinaldo. You can also ask to be connected to the I-WITNESS cubicle at locals 1411, 1412, 1418, or 1419. Any of my colleagues there can answer questions about me. For more info on my show visit http://www.gmanews.tv/show/iwitness.

Make sure you profile Jil Winkle working without a work permit, his penchant for alcoholism, bringing his 5 year old son to gogo bars, and being obese.

Ms. Faustino,

I'm sorry, but I don't know of anybody planning on meeting an online Filipina acquaintance in the near future. One of my friends, who has already met his lady friend in person, is waiting for her to get her passport so that they can be together, and will be going to the Philippines to pick her up when she has accomplished that, but one thing I am sure of is that that meeting will not be before the end of this year.

I also asked Epril, and she does not know of any couples that fit your description either.

Sorry I cannot help you further.

Harris,

If you really want to impress me, find out my real name and the information associated with that.

Oh... and I suppose that when all you can afford to buy is bottled water, everyone must seem like an alcoholic to you. Isn't that dorky online resumé thing you were going to work on here in Thailand paying the bills for you? (Talk about the pot calling the kettle Harris Black on the work permit thing.) Now go out and rape somebody like you do, and stop cluttering up my comments section.
