Daily Report: Busted Computer, Dinner At Friends

Had a pretty good day of work. I sent Go out with Epril to go phone shopping, and Epril bought hot pink Motorola RAZR (second hand... "cheap as chips," as Stan would say). It wouldn't have been my choice, since the RAZR that I owned — although it looked fab — was a piece of junk.

I had a good day of work, but right before I finished up for the day my DSL internet went down... and I discovered that my modem and my old Windows NT system (which I was forced to use due to hardware (foot pedal) problems which I won't get into — see a couple of weeks ago for the details if you are interested) aren't on talking terms anymore. After trying to uninstall and reinstall the modem in the NT hardware profile, I gave up, and put my Windows XP hard drive back in the computer (with which the modem still works fine), and sent out an e-mail to my work supervisors telling them that there was work stuck on my computer that I couldn't send.

In the evening, it was over to visit Geoff and Honey Mae for dinner. Geoff made a nice ground beef stew (mince and potatoes, in Britspeak) while Epril taught Honey Mae to cook chicken adobo. We had banana splits for dessert. (I guess the diet starts tomorrow.)

Epril and I went home at 10:00, and when I got home, I found that the DSL was back up. I reconnected the Windows NT hard drive, and discovered that somehow in removing and reinstalling the modem from Windows NT, I had also cut off ALL internet communications.

So now I'm back to Windows XP with a busted foot pedal... although it seems to be a little less busted than it was a week-and-a-half ago, which is a positive development.
