Aren't You Tired Of This America?

A foreign tourist... an old man... who spoke no English was riding alone on the Amtrak train between New York and Boston. Halfway to Boston, the train was stopped, the old man was removed from the train and taken into police custody.

His crime? He was taking photographs of the Connecticut scenery as he went by.

No... I'm not joking. Taking photographs on trains is now illegal in America.

Listen, I don't live in America anymore, so this kind of stuff only angers me on a practical level... but you, in America, how can you stand this? Where is your outrage that the land of the free and home of the brave is now the land of people who piss themselves at the sight of an old man with a camera, and take him into police custody?

I was thinking last night about the right and wrong way to decide whether "The terrorists are winning."

People with no common sense think that "the terrorists are winning" when terrorists cause explosions and kill people. To them, the terrorists are most definitely not winning in America... because of the alert American people who are brave enough to confront the potential terrorists riding our trains.

People with half a brain think that "the terrorists are winning", when terrorists change American values, cause the loss of freedom, and the loss of common sense. To them, the terrorists are definitely winning... because of the American people who are so petrified of terrorists that everywhere they look they see danger and suspicious behavior.

If Osama Bin Laden heard about this poor old man on the train, you know damn well he would be laughing his ass off, knowing that it all hapened because of him.

My wife wants to go live back in the US, but I dread it.

I know from my own experience living here in Thailand that it would benefit her greatly to live in a foreign (for her) country for a while, but I just dread it.
