Quotacious

"I heard somebody say, 'Where's Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

President Bush

UPDATE:

Alf in the comments section points out that this quote is part of a larger quote concering the issue of why somebody like Nelson Mandela has not shown up in Iraq. I'm quite surprised that CBS news would be so deliberately misleading in using a quote... it is basically malacious.

If you are going to quote then it's best to quote the whole thing. What he said was:

Part of the reason why there is not this instant democracy in Iraq is because people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein’s brutal rule. I thought an interesting comment was made when somebody said to me, I heard somebody say, where’s Mandela? Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas. He was a brutal tyrant that divided people up and split families, and people are recovering from this.

In other words what Bush was saying there are no inspirational leaders of the type of Nelson Mandela rising up to lead the Iraqi people because Saddam killed all the 'Mandelas'.

Cheers,
Alf.

Im no fan of Shrub, BUT I have to say after being in Iraq for almost 3 years, he is right on this one, the people of Iraq, for the most part cant do alot of things (Like think for them selves) because of the Saddam years. Its really hard to explain, one has to see it to understand. As far as ANY media taking things out of context....WOW what a surprise. If the media told me the font I am writing is black, I would think I was color blind.
BTW I will be in Pattaya around the 28th, hope to meet you in TQ2
