Yes We Can

Will.I.Am of The Black Eyed Peas has written a pro-Obama song and made a heck of a video to go with it.

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation: Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom: Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness: Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land:

Yes we can to justice and equality.
Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.
Yes we can heal this nation.
Yes we can repair this world.
Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics; they will only grow louder and more dissonant. We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea:

Yes. We. Can.

It's a sad world we live in! The power of a YOU-tube video filled with an obvious advertising company thought up slogan 'yes we can' might sway voters. It has no historical meaning other than the fancy images taken and played with it. When will humans use thier brains and look at facts. Let's see one guy grew up in a wealthy Hawaii home. Then he went to Harvard and became a Lawyer. I don't see where he really has done anything ever for anyone but himself! Another guy served his country for 22 years in the military and later as a Senator. Hymm! who has sacrificed and actually cares about the future of this country and people? I would think it would be obvious to everyone. But in this age of music videos and celebrity worship it is not. Next thing you know we will be convinced Britney Spears or Snoop Dog is our savor and elect them to the presidency. All I have to say is the future is America's fault if they decide to vote because of propaganda like this video.

Absolutely. We all know that any President who was originally a state senator from Illinois with very little experience in public office, and barely any experience on the national stage makes an absolutely shitty President... and eventually winds up on the $5 bill.

But seriously Jakal, to accuse Barak Obama of never having done "anything ever for anyone but himself" is just silly. I would copy and paste all of his accomplishments and work he did in Chicago and as a law school professor, but that's really beside the point. Besides, if public service and military service was really so important to conservatives, George Bush would never have been elected... especially over John Kerry. (Do you remember all of those people wearing "purple heart bandaids" to make fun of John Kerry's military service at the Republican convention 4 years ago?)

p.s. Being born to a 4-star Admiral and attending the United States Naval Academy isn't to "low-class" a background either.

And, I don't know where you figure that Obama was born into a "wealthy Hawaii home". His parents were graduate students in Honolulu.

PS: I dont think we should be electing Obama just because he is a "Black" or Half Black man alone.
I have been looking into his background and see alot of the stuff circulating in these e mails is just plain bull. I would stand behind him before Hitlary. I guess it will be Edwards as the Number 2 to whom ever wins the number 1 slot.

Totally agree with above post about the plain bull. That was the piont of my post above. It isn't about who was rich and poor but instead about who is real and who is a phony. One guy claims to be a guy who came from nothing and has gone so far as to compare himself to MLK and even JFK. Give me a break. He has not done anything to help anyone! If he has I want some real proof not from his propaganda political machine or websites either. The other guy I talk about is legit. He has led an incredible life of service to his country and without a doubt is a hero. Do you think he could not have left politics and made allot more money but instead devoted his life to his country. Obama was a nobody up until recently and also admit it, he still would be an obscure nobody senator if he were not running for President. If he is such a great person to you or anybody else how come thier are no great posts or stories about him prior to getting his name in the presidency contest. I will tell you why because he hasn't done anything noteworthy that's why. He never led any civil rights marches, he never fought any wars, he never saved any humans, he has never led a thing in his life. He is a product of a political propaganda machine that's all! Is military service a disqualifier for those who have not served, of course not. But is does show you the mindset of an individual and his willingness to serve his country. You could also serve in peace corp, or as an attorney he could of volunteered and worked for a free defense counsel instead of a high priced law firm in chicago. Many ways to have proved he cares about his country and people by now but I see none yet! Of course you could fall for his non-true propaganda on his websites and videos maybe. Then crown him the new mesiah!

Dago,

Harris Black eventually winds up hating everyone, because everyone winds up hating Harris. However, he seems to especially hate me because I refused to be friends with him after he stole posts off of my blog and posted them as his own on Pattayasecrets.com.

He's a mentally disturbed con man who has an inferiority complex, and lashes out at the world.

Basically, he ruined his life a few years back by running a scam and ripping off a bunch of people and doing a bunch of nasty shit, and now he can't clear his name, and the only job he can find now is to run more scams.

More or less, the rest of us are just sitting around waiting for him to kill himself. I think that's the primary reason Harris Black posts messages here on this blog: To let us know he hasn't suicided yet.

Jakal,

You could be describing Presidents George Bush Jr., Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, or Lyndon Johnson just as well with your "what has he done" spiel. None of them were big on donating time to helping the needy. None of them were big military heroes. Many of them came from more humble beginnings than McCain did.

Basically, you're setting up criteria for a presidential candidate that very few candidates have ever met. Instead of saying, "A presidential candidate should be just like John McCain, and Barack Obama is not", how about naming some other presidential candidates who have been like John McCain? Are there any?

You make light of the "yes we can" slogan of the Obama Campaign, but that is by far better than "I Like Ike", or "All The Way with LBJ".

So, like I said: I don't disagree with you about what you've accused Obama of not doing, but I would like you to point out any other presidential candidate who fits the criteria you have mentioned... other than Jesse Jackson or Ralph Nader.
